Yes, is painfully slow to access from many places (not all, many).

Hardware failure, networking related, problem is being looked at. Only about 10% of the packets are making it in right now.

Will be fixed as soon as possible, sorry but no estimated times available...

Thanks. Painfully slow is still better than getting "server failed to respond". Or the ubiquitous 404.

Please take whatever hardware you need from metalink. Asktom is more important. :)

Considering you are tuning your web site, I think it’s good idea to enable new feature AQDM (Automatic Questions Diagnostic Monitor) and QTM (Questions Tuning Advisor) to find a questions that not using bind variable. Cause your system have only one shared server process (it’s you) , the only area to tune is your QGA. Try setting question_sharing to force to make little more space in the QGA for our questions.

Incidentally, how do you go about diagnosing this kind of problem?

to diagnose in this case was easy - I could get to it easily from inside oracle, I could not from outside. trace route was useful to show it breaking down...

from there - the network guys diagnosed it, piece of hardware, waiting for it to get fixed....

I would rather have metalink down for a day thank asktom.. asktom is way too important in my view. I hope the powers that be at Oracle recognize the importance and provide you enough network gear...

Well, the saying
"You don't know what you got, 'till it's gone"
now really makes sense to me ;-)

Verizon is looking at the hardware now...

Could you please tell us why do we have to use the EXTEND function for Nested tables and Varrays.
Is it because the internal implementation of these is using Linked List. Thus when we say extend
it does a malloc or calloc (to allocate the memory). If it is so does it mean memory allocation
happens at runtime for them. The EXTEND is not applicable for Index by tables does that mean that
memory is allocated at compile time for it.

That has got to be a joke, surely? Asking a question on the blog because asktom is down?

Seen it all now.

Even better, the person asks if asktom is having problems in reply to a blog entry stating asktom is having issues.

Well, isn't OTN working? I'd be willing to bet the answer to that question is in the documentation.

If not, I'll bet the forums are still working.

Someone is suffering from Tom Oracle of Oracle.Oracle.Com withdrawal.

Hi Tom,
I was surprised to see there was no fan page of yours in Facebook, so I creted one. Please let me know if it is ok or do you have any concerns regarding this.
Take care. Thanks.
