Interesting APEX application...
Interesting APEX application. Dimitri Gielis sent me an email telling me about his World Cup application. Apparently, in certain parts of the world, this soccer stuff is popular. Ok, ok – I know, “football” is another name for it.
Anyway, this looks like an interesting application of APEX and shows some of the power behind the tool. On his blog, Dimitri discusses the genesis of the application. If you’ve wanted to see what an APEX application can look like – this is a pretty good example. I’ve linked not to the home page of the application, but rather to the about page – which gives a pretty good overview of what it is and how it got started.
Feel free to give Dimitri feedback on his blog!
On a side note, I’ve added a new site to the end of my “blogroll”. Dan Hurley sent me a link to The Daily WTF. I knew of the existence of this forum, just had never read it. After reading the initial link, I had to read more (and more). So, I’ve subscribed to the feed. Looks good for a laugh (or a cry) in the morning.

I always thought APEX was Victoria's Secrets uber bra....

Tell that to your daughter !!!! Isn't she a soccer player ? She has good taste for sports. Soccer is the best sport ever. Too bad that in the US soccer is viewed as "for girls" sport while the rest of the world is crazy about it.
Can't wait for the world cup to start !!!!! 4 days away!!! Go Brazil !

I know, it was totally tongue in cheek.
I've been to many more Soccer matches than American Football games in my life.
I'll be standing on the side of the field again tonight...
I liked Robh's comment. (grin)
Yes, some people in America view soccer as a "girlie" sport. It isn't.
I think those mistaken people compare American Football's brutal gladitorial combat and miss soccer's requrements for stamina, teamwork, and finesse. Professional American footbal players are physically HUGE! No way an offensive lineman could run around for 80 minutes.
While not as popular, I like lacrosse. (men's lacrosse , women's lacrosse has some strange rules)
I agree soccer players aren't sissies.
From the wiki
"
The World Cup was first televised in 1954, and is now the most widely-viewed and followed sporting event in the world, exceeding even the Olympic Games.[16] The cumulative audience of the World Cup 2002 event — summing over all matches — is estimated to be 28.8 billion. 1.1 billion individuals watched the final match of this tournament. The draw, which decided the distribution of teams into groups, has been watched by 300 million viewers.[17]"
Compare that to the Superbowl wiki
There is a popular urban myth regarding the Super Bowl — that the game is watched in 234 countries by 1 billion people [1], a fact unlikely to be true considering the time of the event and the lack of popularity American Football has outside of the United States. In actual fact, Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005 was watched by 93 million viewers in total, of which 98 percent were in North America [2]. Approximately half of the remaining 2 million worldwide viewers watched from the United Kingdom. [3] By comparison, the FIFA World Cup final game draws an audience of approximately 1.1 billion.
Oh, oh. Sorry Tom but you know, football fans are kind of "very" fanatic with this World Cup thing.
In my country you have more than five channels only for football and I'm starting to think that I will be the only one working here the next month (just because I like tennis more than football).
Anyway, I hope Gleisson realizes that Argentina is the only team that will be world champion this year.

Tom,
Maybe he can make a version for travel Soccer for your daughter :)

May Brazil, I mean, the best team win !
Ok, jokes aside. Argentina is always a strong candidate but for the last couple world cups you guys have been such a disappointment. As a matter of fact, I wish the Argentina teams from Mexico-86 and Italy-90 were back.
One last thing, in the last three world cups, Brazil has made to the final in all three and won two. That's 12 years of supremacy. Brazil is kind of the Oracle of soccer. :O)
Have a great time during the world cup!
Gleisson Henrique
P.S. Just between us, there is something that tells me Brazil won’t win this year, maybe because too much confidence, but don’t tell any Brazilian that because I may get my soccer fan behind kicked. I think Germany, Italy, Argentina and Mexico are strong candidates to win.
If England keeps playing like they do now they have a good chance of winning also.
How could I have forgotten David Beckham, Owen, and Rooney?

PS. 2 days away
Gleisson Henrique, I don't see you listed in the WC 2006 application?
You've a strong feeling about who's going to win (or just not win), but you don't put it in a bet? ;-))
You're free to join.
And for Tom; Many thanks for the article... the effect is there, yesterday between 14-15pm more than 10.000 hits! At the moment 137 registrations. Euhh, maybe your daughter wants to do a bet too?
Ah Gleisson Henrique! I didn't look good enough, you registered yesterday ;-) Good luck with your bet!
Don't forget about the USA team. We have our best team in some time.
