Power outage in Reston Virginia

Which is where the servers that host asktom are located. The external access to the internet is powered off right now. They are working on it.

Thanks for the heads-up! Was just gonna ask you about that! Good luck with your presentation (although I don't think you'll need it ;-D).

No, I have my own machine (well, it runs a couple of things I work on besides asktom as well, but it is in the building I work in)

It sure would be nice if you simply posted a new front page to AskTom that simply said that this server was down and please check back later? ;)

Bill,

I'm curious why you enter the word verification "word" in your entries?

You've been practicing your recoveries, right? A wise friend once said " the only thing a dba is not allowed to get wrong is recovery (not backup, recovery) we can fix everything else, but if you botch that, forget it"

my word: zfnajmrc - isn't that the new ED treatment?

All the technology in the world don't work without power.

Yup. LACK of power corrupts and ABSOLUTE lack of power corrupts absolutely. Unless you have UPS ;-D.

DG would work without power in the primary data centre. That is what it does. Doesn't mean asktom is a site that has to be available 24/7 though. HA always costs, just gotta decide how much the thing you are protecting is worth.

me, i just like the fact that service outages are a fact of live in the grid model :)

Hi mr obvious, welcome back via your anonymous proxy server 203.112.194.81, India this time. Italy, India, you get around.

Remember how to spell "Hypocrisy", you already know the definition.

It would be funny, if it weren't so very very sad.

but hey, thanks for playing!

(ps: if you say "he does enough", you cannot be talking about the person who wrote the original statement - so you must be talking about someone else. Maybe a pseudonym could be interjected...)

Nope, career is going quite well, but thanks for your concern, I really appreciate that.

But I think we all know what it referred to, come on - you must remember this.... Even Michael quoted it once.
