Take a snapshot of yourself now, after 5 hours of waiting, and post it ... for documentation purposes of course!

Were you stuck in the airport again?
It seems as if New York really likes and doesn’t want to let you go :)

Hope, that you are at home already

Looks like a useful device for remote access to your work is missing. Five wasted hours in which you could have answered questions in the asktom forum.

Oh geez, not AGAIN! Tom, I'm so sorry! Julia is right, we obviously love you a lot here and don't want to let you go.

Oh not to worry, this was after I was on the real network for some 6 hours ;) I was just getting bored and taking a break.

Yup, flight was scheduled:

Washington, DC (IAD)
Wed, Jul 13
Scheduled: 3:56 PM
Actual: 10:54 PM

I made it at 10:30pm though! I rented a car after they started saying "you can always rebooked for tomorrow", which is what happened last time. Hopped in car, drove to IAD, and got home in time for the Late Show.

I have decided that NO MORE PLANES TO NEW YORK. I am so going to take the train from now on.

You could always just avoid New York for good.

No he can't. We won't let him. We'll just arrange for a special car on the Amtrak Acela for him from now on.

Truly though, when you consider the amount of time it takes to get to the airport, the fact that you have to check in at least an hour before the flight for a domestic flight and the length of the flight itself, it's almost as long as it takes on the train!

Oh and Niall, considering you and yours will be in NY in December, I'd be careful about insulting us :)

Don't you find this blogging a one way street to your personal life? I understand there's a lot of your life missing but I've seen a picture of your kid playing soccer, your work area, know roughly wear you live etc, grew up in Baltimore (did you ever appear in a John Waters movie?) If we were to meet at a user group I would just be anonymous but I would know how you spend your time in airports or that your mom reads your blog. Don't you find it all a bit much sometimes? Yours was the first blog I've read and I find it (blogging) quite fascinating.

Michael -

I would imagine that Tom only shares the information "he wants to share" with us ... I read a very interesting article on the downside of blogging yesterday in the CNN Technology section...

Bloggers learn the price of telling too much

Just like you should not write anything in your diary that you don't want made public one day [and it will become public one day] ... you should not include anything in a blog that you wouldn't stand up in a room full of people and announce...

I just read this...

Sun's CIO backs blogs despite lawyer worries

Does Oracle have a policy about it's "Section 10" employees blogging?

I would imagine what you say on this blog can affect the company.

Not that I am aware of, but I am so so so far removed from a section 10 employee.

I hope things I say on asktom have a larger ability to (positively) affect the company I happen to work for.

I guess you could say "New York's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to leave there."
