15 minutes

Perhaps the easiest installation I ever did.  15 minutes, not a single issue.

That is quite nice, but Jonathan Lewis showed for us Oracle 11 recently, albeit early alpha version, yet still very promising :)

I had installed 10g on Solaris more than an year ago. It installed in 15 minutes and without any problems. I think it is because a lot of pre-install checks are now built-in. If a required OS patch is not installed, the 10g install just aborts. This is way better than having install fail during the link phase.

I was talking about the entire install experience, the least amount of Q&A I've ever seen -- a "rapid install" sort of option where you basically say "give me a database" and skip all of the subsequent dialogues. No questions in the middle.

not bad! - will this run on Linux later also without problems?

And: Thanks for the Hitchhiker-Tip - starts in Germany End of June.

10g R2 Beta is looking quite promising, I've encountered a couple minor installation bugs with fresh CRS installs vs upgrades, but overall it's been working great. I usually expect alot more to "blow up" on me.

It's been a pleasant surprise!

Do you keep your Linux upgraded/patched to the latest? Any favorite methods?

I only patch when I have to -- for my test machines, they are very much isolated behind firewalls (and my house, no outside traffic in at all)

For the real machines, our IT guys do that and I'm not sure what their methods are.

How can one become part of the beta program? Is the software available anywhere?

You can registerhere to be considered for beta programs. Being in the Oracle Partner Network would likely increase the probability.
